Traditions equals soul of the nation | EVS/ESC Review #5

Dzień dobry!

It is a high time for writing the conclusion of this week and call to mind many great things happened to me during those 7 days. The title for this week is 'Traditions equals soul of the nation'. The reasons why I have picked this one, find below.

#1. All Saints' and All Souls' Day

During the first two days of November, November 1 and November 2, Polish people remember all holly spirits and all those who passed away. These days are marked as All Saints' and All Souls' Day respectively in calendars of all the Catholics. That atmosphere of sincerity and holiness touches to the core!

I was happy to spend that time with a polish family and felt, at least partially, what it means to believe and trust when you are Polish. We had a lovely family dinner and then together with all the family (mother, father and three kids aged 4, 9 and 13) went to cemeteries. We visited two big ones - Powązki and Wojskowy. They are located quite near to each other in Powązkowska st.

Notably, there were so many people at the cemetery! All of them raking leaves, putting a place in order near graves, lighting the candles here and there, and simply walking and enjoying the holy atmosphere. There is a nice tradition that if you see the grave which is neglected, you should put the candle near such a grave for this person also feels the attention and care of people (pay attention, no candies, drinks and all the stuff like this here!).

Thus, all the cemetery turns into a warm place full of light - a soul light of those people who keep us from all misfortunes and adversities.

#2. European Solidarity Corps as a new program of EU

Several days before, Mrs.Agata and I visited the Conference of European Solidarity Corps. ESK is a new project of the European Union which is aimed at giving various opportunities for the youth to be active rulers of their lives. There are three perspectives in ESK:

1. Volunteer projects - the projects for the youth of 18-30, 2-12 months in duration, for those who are interested in development in different spheres.

2. Internships and work - the projects for the youth of 18-30, 2-12 months in duration, for those who want to get some particular skills for further working in the organization.

3. Solidarity projects - the projects for the youth, 2-12 months in duration, for those who are interested in Solidarity Projects in Poland.

If you are interested (and I highly recommend you to be interested in), follow this link and find out more information.

Also, for those who wonder what is the difference between European Volunteer Service and Volunteer Projects of ESK, I answer - there isn't Ukrainians are still eligible to apply for these projects as well as get the volunteers from somewhere, so catch the wave!

#3. Science for everyone!

On Saturday, I was a crazy scientist! Because not everyone can survive 8 hours at Copernicus Science Centre! But I did

The Center is a huge one and a perfect example of how difficult things can be described with simple words. So many interesting exhibits are in this modern science museum - genetics, biology, mathematics, physics, humanities and many many more! But the very thing is that you can feel, smell, spin everything here. Such an opportunity 'to touch' the science makes it really attractive not only for kids but for adults too!

You should definitely free all day for visiting CSC because every part of it wants to be analyzed, observed and explored! You can have a look at a small part of the museum in my stories on my IG

Moreover, I am happy that this wonderful idea is being realized in Ukraine too. Greetings to Ternopil Science Center, Kharkiv Landau Center and Odesa Museum of Interesting Science!

#4. Living independently vs Living in a family

In this passage, I want to describe what is the biggest problem for me when I started to live independently. You might wonder there should be something like cooking, cleaning, keeping everything in order or something like this. But no! Definitely no!

The issue is that I have to buy the food enough for only one person only! It is really hard after living in a big family almost all my life (mather, father, sister, me, and grandma)  So every now and then when I grab lots of things in a supermarket, in a moment I stop and should put some things back. Really funny routine thing

#5. Miracle Mornings are back!

Also, want to announce that Miracle Mornings are finally back in here!  The Miracle Morning is a nice book written by Hal Elrod. It offers you to spend only 1 hour in order to be more productive during your day, week, month and all your life! This hour includes 6 steps: meditation, sports, visualisation, affirmation, keeping a diary of success, and reading. I read a book in December and tried making Miracle Morning for the first time in January 2018. Everything is really in your hands, so be bold to live your life as you want!

For those who have no idea yet, but might be interested in, follow this link and find out more!

All the best from EVS/ESC-wolontariuszka Ira Konoplianko.
Cześć!😉
